The Myrtle Beach Air Force Base closed in March 1993. Since then it has reinvented itself into Market Commons – a development which includes single family homes, condominiums, a beautiful retail area including restaurants, bars and a movie theatre. It also has a first class recreation center for youth. At the front entrance is Warbird Park dedicated to the military personnel stationed there.
