This week Amy has given us the word “change” as the inspiration for our post.
Yesterday we travelled to Ravenel – just south of Charleston – to watch the Victory Cup and a Hot Air Balloon launch. It was the first polo match for me and it was a beautiful day to relax, learn something new and enjoy time with family. (My middle daughter and her boyfriend went with hubby and me. I also got a chance to practice action shots!)
Played on horseback, the game lasts about an hour or so and time periods are called “chukkers”. The players change horses at the end of each chukker to allow them to rest. When the ball is struck by a player, all players are required to ride along the ball’s path. When the ball is struck in a different direction, the players all change direction as well.
In this respect, life can be a lot like polo. Most of us go day-to-day with the same routine never stepping outside the box to try something different or learn something new. Any type of change – whether it’s work, relationship, religious or school related – is feared.
Change has been on my mind quite a bit lately as retirement is right around the corner for me. I have a lot of decisions to make in the next year or so but change is nothing to be feared – especially when you meet it head on and are prepared.

Good luck with your upcoming retirement Gina! It’s the best, I promise! Loved the polo shots, where are the balloons?!

Thanks Tina. The balloons are coming. I was a little disappointed though because they were tethered so the pictures didn’t have quite the effect I was hoping for.

Thanks! I get inspired seeing all the places you’ve been to. I still have another year or so to go though so lots of time to make lists of where I want to visit.

You’ve inspired me to go to a polo match. Don’t be afraid of retirement. With good health and a positive attitude it can be the best time of your life. A time to catch up on all of the things you’ve pondered.
