Photo Challenge – Lens-Artists: One Single Flower

Cee is guest hosting this week and she has challenged us to show one single flower.  So I went looking through my files trying to narrow my choices down.

I decided to share photos with either a bee or butterfly on the flower.  I love good flower photos but there is something especially fascinating to me about capturing a bee or butterfly during their “pollen” rounds.

Unfortunately, my winged friends move so quickly so it’s not always easy to get a clear photo.  But I persist.  Once I followed a bee around and around a camellia shrub 3 or 4 times until I got a photo I was happy with.

Butterflies are harder to track through.  Bees are methodical going from one flower to the next one over so you can anticipate their path.  Butterflies flit from one flower to the other randomly – it’s more hit and miss.

But I keep trying – once I even got a dragonfly!

Photo Challenge – Lens-Artists: Creativity

Ann-Christine has asked us to show our creativity in this week’s post.

I started working in Adobe Illustrator a couple of months ago and I’m so excited about all the things it lets me do.  I’m doing some graphic design and to practice my drawing skills (which were non-existent before starting Illustrator), I’m taking older photos and reworking them in Lightroom, Photoshop and Illustrator.  Hubby calls it my expensive coloring book.

Dad

The handsome man above is my dad.  The photo was taken at a family event about 10 years ago.  I don’t know which family member took it but I am so grateful they did.

The drawing below is from my most absolute favorite photo in the world.  I love reading to my grandchildren and my daughter always takes a picture of my grandson snuggled in my lap while I read to him.

The Look

So hubby may be right about the expensive coloring book but I’m having fun and that’s all that matters.

Photo Challenge – Lens-Artists: Small

Amy has chosen “Small is beautiful” as our prompt for this week’s challenge.

First, we did evacuate to our daughter’s due to Hurricane Florence.  Hubby went back today and says we did not have any damage and didn’t even lose power.  Lucky for us, Flo made a turn back to the north and we were spared the brunt of it.  However, there has been severe flooding and more is expected throughout the week as the never ending rain from Florence will cause the area rivers to overflow.

I did remember to bring my flash drives and memory cards with me along with all of my lens, filters, etc (fearing the worst) and I’ve gone through them while my grandson was napping and went looking for “small” subjects.

I love capturing these small treasures although it can be quite frustrating so nothing makes me happier when I realize I’ve gotten focused shots.

This last photo was an assignment for the Photoshop class I just finished.  We were instructed to composite an impossible scene.  I had just taken the photo of the dragonfly and added my grandson to it.  I liked it so much I promptly added him to some other scenes and may post them one day.

Zebra Butterflies

The Butterfly House at Brookgreen Gardens is open for the season.  I visited this weekend and got some great shots.  I think these are zebra butterflies.  If I’m wrong, please let me know.
