Photo Challenge – Lens-Artists: It’s a Small World

This week, guest host Anne has invited us to take out our macro lens and get busy. I have to admit though that I’ve not taken out my macro in a long time – much too long so I’ve pulled out some photos from my files.

Most of my macro shots are flowers in bloom so it was hard to pick just a few.

Can you smell them? I can.

And here is a begonia closeup edited to be a Valentine Day’s card.

Photo Challenge – Lens-Artists: Fill the Frame

How to frame the shot is one of the most important decisions a photographer makes in getting a perfect capture.  This week Patti has asked us to “fill the frame”.  For those unfamiliar with the phrase, it means to get in close so that your subject fills the frame.  Filling the frame is a very powerful tool in a photographer’s toolbelt.

Sometimes I fill the frame when editing the photo and I’ll crop it to get the shot I want.  The balloon above and the three below are examples of cropping to fill the frame.

These next photos are examples of filling the frame when the photo is initially taken.  It makes for a more dramatic photo.

Of course, any time I take out my macro, it’s a fill the frame day!

Regular Random – Five Minutes with a Tiny Bouquet

I picked up this tiny bouquet at the grocery store this weekend.  The bright colors were calling out to me and I instantly decided it would be the perfect post for Desley Jane’s Regular Random challenge.  I hadn’t participated in a while so this was the perfect time to rectify my absence.

The rules are to pick an item and without disturbing the subject, spend five minutes taking shots with different lighting and angles.

Photo Challenge – Sweet

This week we are asked to share something sweet.

Welcome to Mom Asked Me For A Recipe!  “Mom” is my first blog and it’s what got me interested in photography.  After all, we eat with our eyes as well as our other senses so a pretty plate is the start of a great meal.

For better or worse, life has gotten hectic lately and I’ve had to cut back on some activities.  “Mom” took a lot of time for each post so I haven’t posted on it in a while.

But now that I’ve looked back on some of my “sweet” creations, I may rethink that decision so watch for another post soon.

Regular Random – Five Minutes with Yellow

Yellow 1Yellow 2Yellow 3

The idea of this challenge is to pick a subject and spend five minutes photographing it using different angles and lighting without moving the subject.  The center of this flower is so beautiful that I decided to concentrate just on it.

Regular Random – Five Minutes with Purple

The rules of this challenge are to spend five minutes photographing a subject using different lighting and angles.

These purple marsh grasses are so wispy and dreamy in macro and I’m totally in love with the bokeh.

Regular Random: Five Minutes with a Bouquet

Desley Jane hosts this challenge each week and the rules are to pick a subject and shoot for five minutes using different angles and lighting.

I tend to overthink each shot so I’ve always gone over five minutes in my previous attempts.  But these challenges have helped me realize that I can just trust my instincts and for the first time, I’ve gotten several great shots in five minutes.

Regular Random – Five Minutes with the Sun

The rules of this challenge are to pick out an object and photograph it for five minutes only using different lighting and angles. ( I underscored this because I have problems following the time limit.)

Fortunately we have missed out on the worst of Hurricane Irma but we are still experiencing a lot of rain and wind gusts up to 50 – 55 miles per hour and losing power off and on.  Hurricane Matthew last year was enough for us, thank you very much!  Anyway, there’s no sun today so I decided to make my own.

I love suns and have one in just about every room of the house.  This one sits in my hall and I pulled it out in front of the window to get what light I could.

Thanks to Desley Jane for hosting.  You can find her post here:  https://musingsofafrequentflyingscientist.com/2017/09/10/five-minutes-with-chocolate-cake-regularrandom/

Regular Random – Five Minutes with Buttons

Desley Jane hosts Regular Random each week and you can find her here: https://musingsofafrequentflyingscientist.com/2017/08/05/five-minutes-with-a-ranunculus-regularrandom/

The rules are to pick a subject and spend five minutes with it using different lighting, views and angles, etc.

I bought these cute buttons for a project a couple of years ago and came across them the other day and thought it would be a colorful entry.
