This week Amy has asked us to show layers in our photos.
On a recent trip to Charleston, we stopped at our favorite place to eat and afterward went over to Shem Creek so I could get some sunset photos.
The sky was layered in colors from pinks and purples to yellows and oranges.
This last photo was posted last week for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge – Lines but I’m showing it again for its layered colors. It was taken in a moving car and through a dirty windshield so I’m really, really happy with it.

This week Amy has asked that we show how we frame a shot. Framing is oh, so important since it leads the viewer’s eyes to the spot you want them to look.
Recently I visited family in Chattanooga, Tennessee and revisited some of the tourist sites I had not seen since I was a child. These included The Incline, Rock City and Ruby Falls. This time we also rode the Missionary Ridge Local train, inspected the Coke Ovens in Dunlap, Tennessee and visited the Chattanooga Zoo and the Tennessee Aquarium.
I had to wait quite a while until these little fishies would cooperate and swim to an open spot in the coral.
The Tennessee Aquarium is one of the best that I have visited. There are two buildings – one is devoted to ocean life and the other is limited to inland rivers.
Because of age and condition, the Walnut Street Bridge is now open to pedestrian traffic only. It crosses the Tennessee River and has helped to revitalize the downtown area with shops, restaurants and residential buildings. It was also the perfect spot to take sunrise and sunset photos.
You can see a photo of the bridge from the ground during a previous visit here: https://photographyinpearls.com/2018/06/27/cees-fun-foto-challenge-diagonal-lines/

I thought I would take another look at some of my first photos and see what editing changes I would make today. I knew nothing about editing then so the top photo is straight out of the camera.

I like the difference the muted colors bring.
Do you have a capture you would like to revisit? I’d love to see what changes you would make. Tag it “Another Look” so everyone can share.

To celebrate the end of the year, this week we are asked to share the most meaningful photo(s) we’ve taken in 2017.
This photo was taken at sunset last month at Huntington Beach State Park. It was a cool evening and while the colors in the sky were gorgeous, the colors reflected in the water outshone those in the sky.
As the sun continued to set, the water turned a beautiful gold. And all too soon, it was time to go home.

This week we are asked to share something that glows.
This challenge is easy. Two weeks ago, I finally gave into the urge and got myself that pony in my dreams. I used to own one years ago but gave it up for practicality.
Fast forward to this summer and I’ve seen countless convertibles in my travels. And I knew I wanted the wind in my hair again.
Practicality is extremely overrated.

This week we are asked to share a wish.
I wish to see beautiful skies each day. I wish for calm waters, the smell of salt water, cool breezes and the feel of the sun on my face.
