Photo Challenge – Lens-Artists: Spots and Dots

Our prompt this week is to have fun showing off our dots and spots.

One of my favorite hobbies now is writing children’s books for my grandchildren. I’ve given them as Christmas gifts and I’ve listed them on Amazon too. I’m having so much fun doing them and while it would be nice if I made a little money when a book sells, I really don’t care because I’m having fun! FYI, I can’t draw at all but using Adobe Illustrator, I can actually draw now. Isn’t technology wonderful?

I’ve just finished my fifth book. Four are on Amazon now, the fifth is in printing and I’m working on the sixth. The title is Carter Goes to the Aquarium. It started with a visit to the aquarium with my youngest grandson who was 4 years old. I take photographs the entire visit and I use them as a starter for my illustrations.

There are over 33,000 different types of fish in the world and I think we saw some of the most beautiful. Their colors are so vibrant and varied, it’s astounding and some are so unusual, I couldn’t help but wonder what in the world??? The photos below are examples.

And if you look at them long enough, you notice that they are watching you too. Seriously, this one stayed close to me and I felt like he was giving me the evil eye.

Below is an image from the new book. If you’d like to check out the book when finished, follow me for an announcement.

If you’d like info on my current books, you can find them on Amazon.

Lens-Artists Photo Challenge – Time to Relax

Amy at shareandconnect.wordpress.com gives us this week’s prompt – “time to relax”.

Between working 50 – 60 hours a week, blogging, taking classes and running to doctors appointments, I have little time to just sit and relax.  But despite that, living at the beach makes it simple for me to follow Amy’s suggestion.

The beach is less than a mile from home and work so it’s easy to grab my camera and pop over to the beach for a quick walk before heading home.  And with the soft light at that time of day, I always get a beautiful, calming shot.

And on the weekends, hubby and I get the chairs, umbrella and towels together and we sit at the water’s edge for a couple of hours.  Watching the tide come in and roll out, seeing the children playing in the surf and watching the sun setting is the best prescription for what ails you.

Lens-Artist Photo Challenge – Wonder

I’ve been participating in the WordPress Photo Challenges for over two years and was very disappointed to hear that WordPress was no longer going to host the weekly challenge.  The challenges provided an opportunity for bloggers and photographers to discover each other and share our work.  And I’ve picked up lots of tips and ideas for new projects.

Luckily, four wonderful bloggers – photographer/artists – have taken up the “challenge” so to speak and will take turns hosting the challenge each week.  They are –

Week 1 – Patti of https://pilotfishblog.com/
Week 2 – Ann-Christine aka Leya of https://lagottocattleya.wordpress.com/
Week 3 – Amy of https://shareandconnect.wordpress.com/
Week 4 – Tina of https://travelsandtrifles.wordpress.com/

This week, Patti has given us the prompt “wonder”.  We’ve been asked to create a post that captures a moment, a feeling, a place, a person—that fills us with wonder.

The Wonder of the Beach.jpg

The beach is that place for me.  I visit at least three or four days a week.  Sometimes hubby and I spend the day under the umbrella with sandwiches and watermelon for lunch and sometimes I walk alone.  Sometimes, it’s the clouds and the sky that capture my attention.  Sometimes it’s the birds and some days it’s the children playing in the sand and surf.

A Girl and Her Kite

Regardless of the circumstances, each visit I leave calm, relaxed and uplifted, filled with wonder at the day spent at the beach.

Sunday Beach Day

Sunday was a beach day for us although we thought we were going to get rained out.

Orange Moon

We had an orange full moon this week and my BFF and I went out to capture it and get some other shots during the golden hour.

View Through the DunesPinwheel on the Beach

Families and friends were out enjoying the last bit of daylight and many of the small children had to be told several times to come in.

The clouds came in with the rising of the moon but the moon didn’t disappoint.

Evening Walk on the Beach

It seems like it’s been forever since I’ve had an opportunity to walk the beach but I managed to get away yesterday evening for a little while.  It’s been hot and humid but the breeze off the ocean felt wonderful.

There was a family on the beach flying kites.  Well, at least one of them was.  The other two weren’t having much luck keeping theirs in the air.

Photo Challenge – Liquid

This week we are asked to share a photo of liquid in whatever state, shape or color we find it.  Since I live at the beach, you know my choice would include the ocean.

During my beach walk last night, I came across two men out walking their four dogs.  This one got most of my attention because of its distinctive color and markings but also because of its unbounded joy in the surf.  He dashed in and out,

jumped up and down

and gave me the biggest and sweetest grin!  This is a happy dog!
